We have a roster of around 80 high calibre musicians drawn from across the north east of England and invite them to take part in forthcoming concerts. Because most of our members make their living from music, the orchestra varies from one concert to another depending on who is available. Take a look at our archive of concerts over the last 30 years to get an idea of the wide range of challenging works we undertake.
We hire professional conductors, soloists and leaders, many of whom have established international reputations, for example André De Ridder, Philippe Bach, Baldur Brönnimann; Jamie Burton; Ben Zander, and the north east’s own John Wilson. See what they think about working with Orchestra North East.
Rehearsals take place the week before a concert - usually three rehearsals in one week. Members give their time freely in return for the opportunity to play larger scale repertoire. At present there are no membership fees, although this is something we may have to consider in the future.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the orchestra, please email Orchestra North East for the attention of our chairman Michael Borthwick, with an idea of your experience and level of ability.
